Calendar of Events for the Unitarian Universalists of Fallston
Overview

The Adult Enrichment Program seeks to meet needs and interests of members that go beyond Sunday morning services.

These programs may involve:
-- exploring the religious and spiritual experience,
-- expanding the knowledge of our religious and cultural heritage,
-- addressing our life challenges to strengthen ourselves and our religious community,
-- and artistic, cultural, social and entertainment opportunities.

Soulful Sundown Services

The Soulful Sundowns are periodic Sunday evening contemporary services that incorporate the arts including: music, poetry & literary elements, performance, visual arts and dance. Our Soulful Sundowns usually have themes which provide a basis for artistic expressions to entertain, enlighten, enrich and inform.

Our most recent Soulful Sundowns were:

THE ART OF PEACE (December 2007): Expressing our hopes and desires to change the dialogue from war to peace. As well as honoring the sacrifice of the men and women who have lost their lives serving our country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

EARTH DAY (April 2008): Celebrating the beauty of our fragile earth and dedicating ourselves to be responsible stewards of it's treasures. Members of the Baltimore Songwriters Association performed original musical compositions on environmental themes. Artist Maggie Spatarella helped participants construct a tree of recyclables and decorate it with statements of environmental support. Attendees were offered the opportunity to make individual pledges to stewardship of the earth in the coming year. See videos of two original program segments:The Last Species Standing by John Seay and The Recycle Rap by Scott Phillips.

NATIONAL HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS WEEK (November 2008): This Soulful Sundown Service used the arts to heighten our awareness of homelessness and hunger issues and inspire us to support the needs in our community. The Soulful Sundown Service featured performances of original music by: hank49, Teporah, John Seay, Chuck Selfe and Joe Spatarella. Maggie Spatarella and Mary Mayhew developed a collaborative art project where those attending were able to express reactions to these problems or their personal commitments to support solutions to hunger and homelessness. Attendees were asked to bring a jar of grape jelly for the food pantry and our young people created a jelly tree. Donations were accepted for our Circle of Hope program that locally supports people in need. Here is a link to the Hunger and Homelessness Service Video Montage produced by Maggie Spatarella with original music "Stack of Coins" by Teporah.

UNITY (May 2009): The Soulful Sundown Service used the arts to highlight how interconnected we are and that are differences make us stronger when we join as one. The Soulful Sundown Service featured performances by: hank49, Teporah, John Seay, Joe Spatarella,Tom Edwards, Dave Eske, Tony Collata and Bobbie MacDonald. Maggie Spatarella developed a collaborative art project where those attending were able form a Unity Chain of expressions on unity symbolizing how we are one. Concerts/Open Mic Nights

The UUF has concerts throughout the year either in our church sanctuary or at our amphitheater when the weather is pleasant. One of our formats is the Coffee House/Open Mic Night which draws gifted musicians from the region. Some are nights open format and others may be oriented to a musical or cultural theme. We occasionally have Musical Showcases featuring a group of musicians such our Spring showcase with the Baltimore Songwriters Association. All are welcome. For information on event or performance schedules visit our Calendar or our MySpace page.

Circle Suppers

These suppers are small, intimate gatherings held in members homes where the participants have the opportunity to get better acquainted. They are a wonderful way to share good food, stimulating conversation and expand our friendships. Conversations over dinner are free ranging and usually cover many subjects – sometimes serious, sometimes just plain fun.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theater

Our annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater combines a pot luck dinner with a Murder Mystery play with performance by the dramatic members of the congregation. It is a fun evening as the cast members take on their roles and ham it up. The congregation participates by trying to guess at the end of the play which character is the murderer. Maggie Spatarella created a photo album from our February 2009 Murder Mystery Dinner Theater event at http://tinyurl.com/UUFmmdt-2-09.  See photos of the  "Eat, Drink, and Be Married" cast in action as well as the dinner and socializing.
